2-sided printing

May 7, 2005 7:28AM PDT

I have an HP 692C printer which used to print on both sides of the page until, that is, I upgraded to XP. It used to print the one page then ask you to turn the page around and replace in the tray. Now with XP it prints the first page and immediately does the next. For things like greeting cards, this is impractical. Any suggestions? Thanks.

HP and Microsoft tend to drop features like that when the OS is updated.

See if HP.COM offered a newer driver with the feature put back in?

Is this homemade greeting like from scratch or using some greeting card s/w? If commerical pgm. is there an XP upgrade path/offer? See if the setting allow one page printing or at least ood/even page printing. If odd/even, time to swap media around. The last trick is to have only 1 sheet of media in the feed tray, thus it has to wait until you refeed the tray. PITA, I know but if you make only 1-2 cards, it can be done.

I had the same problem, and ....

HP confirmed they do not intend to provide XP drivers for their older iron, although maybe somebody somewhere has hacked one up. However, they pointed me to a package called FinePrint (see www.fineprint.com) which does software duplexing, 2-up printing, and lots more. As usual they offer an evaluation version on the website. I found it was great, and even considered keeping when I upgraded my printer. Wouldn't you know that the NEW print driver doesn't get along with it very well, and provides most of the function I want anyway. So FinePrint is back on my software archive, maybe to be used again...

Have the same thing with my 812c from HP which I love and refuse to give up. HP will not make current drivers for these machine for XP so what I do----pain in the tush but it works----when I click print and the print window opens, at the bottom click page (s) instead of All and type "1". Once it's printed then go back and click print, click page (s) and type "2". Just be sure to reinsert your printed page! Like I said it's a pain but it works.
