The second issue is nutty. Here's why. The accounts, permissions, owners of said files will create some issues from one instance of linux to another, but it can work. Go for it.

MaxDB and MySQL
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if you can run an instance of MaxDB on the same computer MySQL is on, or for that matter any two different DB's on linux (I assume there should be no interference but would like to make sure).
Also, if I dual boot two versions of Linux on the same computer and my first installed linux(mandrake) has seperate partitions for /usr(hda7), /var(hda8), and /home(hda9) (seperate from the / partition that is) is there anyway I can install the second linux (suse) so that it only uses the /home from the first installation but not the /usr or /var. I assume I can do this by installing the full distribution on just one logical partition.
I have come a few online articles that speak of dual booting but none that address this.
I'm typing this in a rush so please let me know if my questions are unclear.
THanks
