I try not to use the included wizard. Instead I set the workgroup names the same, enable file and print sharing on the Exceptions tab of Windows Firewall and turn off any other firewall. I will then check the IP and subnet addresses to make sure they are in the same range. Usually this is enough to start communications.
I am trying to create an ethernet connection between two laptops with an RJ-45 Crossover Cable. Both computers are using Windows XP.
The computer that is set up as the host has:
Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC- Packet Scheduler Miniport and
1394 net adapter
The other computer has:
Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller- Packet Scheduler Miniport
When I ran the New Connection Wizard on the host computer , the only device it showed available to accept incoming connections was my modem (Soft V92 Data Fax Modem with Smart CP). This didn't seem right, but I checked the box anyway and finished the wizard. The other laptop was then unable to connect to the host. Should my Realtek network card support this connection?
Or do I need an adapter for my host pc? Thanks
