2 outlook express problems

Feb 21, 2004 4:12PM PST

XP Home (Just did clean install with all critical updates) Also have Office XP Professional installed.

Outlook Express 6 with 2 identities
When switching indentities, the OE window goes away and doesn't return, though OE is still running.
It is in the processes list. To get it back I have to shut down all running copies of msimn.exe and then restart.

I see this is a known bug. All fixes for it I see are referenced for version 5.0 and 5.5, these are registry edits. I haven't tried any of them yet. Do these same reg edits work for OE6?
The reference: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q274/0/17.ASP

The current workaround is, press F1 (opening the help window) and then switch identities while the window is open. This works, it's just odd.

Second problem,
When there is a hyperlink in an email, when clicked,
IE6 opens the link in a minimized window that is flashing on the taskbar. I can't seem to find anywhere to get it not to do that.
I I click on the minimized window it opens to full screen like it should.

Thanks

Second question,

Find the Quick Launch Icon for IE, and right click, choose properties and select RUN - NORMAL WINDOW or MAXIMIZED

Just a guess, but I remember having a similar problem about a year ago, where the workaround was to NOT have any identity selected to be your start identity (file/identities/manage identities then deselect), but I think over time a windows update fixed the problem. Try that workaround I suggested. (I got that workaround from Donna)

On the minimized problem, that is probably what is wrong. I'm going to see that computer tomorrow.
I'll try it then.

As for the identity thing. I tried using the option of no identity at start, but it still uses the default one because of M$ messenger needing an identity.

To get OE to give the selection at startup you have to log off the current identity before closing OE.

It's faster to open the help menu via F1 then go through all the hoops, and you don't have to close OE to do it.

I have all the updates installed and it isn't fixed.
My guess is that M$ doesn't put a high priority on free program fixes. They would prefer you went to
Outlook. If I were them I would.

The solution to this is use one identity and have mail
sorted to different folders, but I couldn't get this person out of their rut and do it my way. They would rather have 2 identities.

Thanks for the info.
PS> I don't know why this posted 3 times
and someones reply posted as a new thread.

Guess the forum people will work it out.
