2 GB Flash Drive???

Aug 23, 2006 10:31AM PDT

I need a reliable 2 or 4 GB USB flash drive at no more than $70 after rebate. I've been looking at the Sandisk Cruzer Micros and Lexar Jumpdrive Secure. I've been reading the reviews about the Sandisk Cruzers and have heard bad things about compatability and reliability issues. Are CNET users able to recommend either the Sandisk or Lexar or some other brand? Would really appreciate any recommendations as school is about to start.

Such should last years. No one is doing reliabilty testing since they are reliable.

Not that reliability

I realize that the memory within the drive is very durable as I have personally lost two flash drives in the washer and dryer and both have survived, but I have outgrown their storage capacities (64 and 512). What I want to know about the Lexar is that when I begin to fill the 2 GB, that the drive will not suddenly turn corrupted as the drives on cnet reviews have mentioned. Have you, R. Profitt have experience with either of these drives? Will both of these drives work on USB 1.1 and 2.0 on either a Mac or PC?
Thanks for your help.

Only at the office.

But such issues are usually an OS issue and not a problem with the drive. Hope that answers that.

So far, 2GB USB drives are working on Mac, PC and on both USB 1.1 and 2.0. I won't dive into OS specifics.

Seems like I have nothing to lose. I'll be getting the Sandisk today. Thanks for the reassurances.
