Solution to Problem 1:
I reinstalled Windows XP using my Restore CD that came with the laptop. Then I updated all my antivirus and malware software. I am going to check out WinTasks 5 Pro, which I heard is very good at removing malware and is easy to use.
Solution to Problem 2:
The culprit was the keyboard setting, which had been set to "English(United States-International)". I went to Control Panel, clicked on Regional Options, checked the Input Locales tab, then set "English(United States)" as my default keyboard layout. No more problem with quotation marks and apostrophes.
Problem 1:
I have an Alienware laptop about 3 years old running Windows XP Pro with MS Office XP.
After my son downloaded Stopzilla (a supposedly trial anti-virus and anti-adware software)off the Internet, my laptop started slowing down, my DVD stops playing in the middle of the movie and the computer started rebooting by itself. After I had removed Stopzilla using the "Add/Remove Hardware" my laptop just crashed. It took about 30 minutes to start, but then all my desktop icons are gone including the status bar; all is shown is the desktop wallpaper.
I am considering running the Recovery CD-ROM that came with my laptop, but being a non-technical person, I need your advice before I start doing it.
Problem 2:
This is about my desktop computer, with MS 2000 and MS Office 2000. It runs fine except the quotation marks in MS Office 2000. Whenever I type the single or double quotation marks, if I don't hit the space bar immediately after that, either the quotation marks do not show or the letter that comes after that changes into a same letter with diatricals; this happens especially with vowels. I use English as the default language on my computer. I checked the Options under Tools but could not find anything wrong. I checked "Default" for Compatibility under Options. I checked Microsoft site for Help, but whatever they show for quotation marks is a totally different topic. Nothing helped. Maybe somebody could help me with this annoying problem.
Thanks in advance.
