2.5" HDD case with flash card readers

Jul 11, 2006 9:32PM PDT

Hello All,

I am looking for a 2.5" hard drive case with memory card reading facility so that when I am on move I can transfer my pictures on the card to this portable hard drive and use it again.

I searched on the internet and got few of them but don't know which one are the best (actually which one I should be avoiding)
Few those I came across are:

I will appreciate if anybody using such gadget can share experience or offer some tips.

Many thanks

X Drive Pro and formerly the X Drive 2. Both were great at offloading cards while traveling and not worrying if my laptop was going to be stolen.

Today I don't take it with me since I upgraded to a pair of 2GB memory cards which is sufficient for a week of travel. Cost? under 200.

not enough

I am traveling to Egypt for a month and so I guess I will need loads of such cards.

in fact, in my opinion, Egytian authorities charge a LOT to foreign tourists (which is OK sometimes) but 100 Egyptian pounds for video camera in every valley of the king at Luxor, thats a rip off. I will rather prefer to shoot some short clips and transfer them on this HDD, if I find one!! and then I save 95 Egyptian pounds per valley, total saving of 950 or so Egytian pounds = USD 170, and I have this HDD worth USD 100 for at least another 5 years at my disposal, right??? I am not too bad at stingy maths Wink

May not sounds really good idea but sorry I am traveling on shoestrings

I found a 40GB drive for my unit so for just under 200US I have that much in a small space. It doubles as a MP3 player which helps in customs when they ask what it is.

The x drive 2 and x drive pro are fairly easy to find on google.com, newegg.com and other places. I try to avoid direct links since they tend to fail later.
