1997 Sebring (Rough Idle Problems) HELP

Dec 20, 2006 2:09PM PST

Hi all. I have a 1997 Sebring with 71,000 miles that has been running a little rough for the past week. It's getting hard to start where it used to start at the touch of the key. It seems to be running rich at the tailpipe. There are no check engine lights on. Any ideas would be appreciated. I've heard rumors that this 10% ethanol that we are running can bring moisture into the fuel injectors. Will injector cleaner added to the gas tank help? I'm going to replace the air cleaner tomorrow and add some injector cleaner to the gas. I kindah thought that a fuel filter problem would show up more on acceleration in the form of a hesitation. It seems to run find at higher rpms. But sitting at a light it wants to stop. Thanks for any thoughts on what to check. ART

'97 Sebring Conv
Jan 5, 2007 8:49PM PST

I have '97 Sebring Con w/88,000 miles. It idels rough; surges and dies at low speeds and dies at stop signs, red lights. Initial starting of a morning or after periods of time is a battle to keep it running. Its like someone "turns" off the engine. Once warm, it usually stops, but not always. This issues doesn't always happen, on other trips - everything works properly. It seems the car is "haunted". The following has been done/replaced to try to stop the above problem. Crank position snsr; ignition module & dist assy; idle speed control actuator; plug wires; dist cap; rotor; spark plugs; EGR Value; Engne Module Controller; TCM; PRLK Asy. The car's computer does not give us any error message. Can anyone assist me with this problem. Thank you.
