1996 GJC cutting out when warm and trying to go faster

I have the above vechile and i'm frusterated with local shop managers. My Jeep just starting cutting out after taking it hunting. I got off the gravel road and tried to accelate. I shut off the jeep and it was fine. The next morning I started it up and after 15 minutes it started to cut out above 2000 RPM. Runs fine besides that does not stall and seems to be backfiring once the exhust heats up. I did change the fuel filter but still not running right. any ideas
