Kind of Like Molly
Feb 19, 2006 8:21AM PST

Looks like Veronica is about to get caught in a Molly loop. I'm gonna get a 15" MacBook Pro, no, I'll wait for the 17". No, I'll get the 15". No, I'll get an iPod. No, I'll get a Zen Vision...

See how easily one morphs into the other? Or maybe with Molly gone the last week Veronica is just starting to channel Molly...

How I answer the question
Feb 19, 2006 11:18AM PST

17'' vs. 15'' vs. 12''

I get asked this question a lot when friends finally decide to take the plunge into buying a Powerbook (Mac Book - arghh!!)

My simple answer, if there really is one goes as follows:

If your primary computer is your laptop and your work is design, especially if you show to clients and you don't NEED to use it frequently on airplanes, go with the 17 inch.

If you want the best, all-around computer that functions OK for graphics and perfectly for everything else, and maybe also need to use it a lot on a plane, go with the 15 inch.

If you are a writer, web surfer, programmer, e-mailer, student, and just need something that carries your life and you want to toss it in a backpack and go, consider the 12 inch.

So many people make the mistake of thinking bigger is better. HORRIBLE logic. In my opinion, the 15 inch is the absolute workhorse and a great machine for most any situation. Go with that unless you have needs mentioned above for the other two.

15 v 17
Feb 19, 2006 5:30PM PST

in general, unless your notebook (be it mac or not) is going to live on a desk for most of its life, go for a 15". Even better, a 15.4".

I have a 15.4" VAIO and for moving about, from coffee shop to coffee shop, it's great.

I also have 17" and to be honest, its too much of a pain to carry about - thats why I bought a 15".

I would maybe stay clear of the 12" - mainly as it is nice to have a bit of screen real-estate.
