1606 Error

Feb 23, 2011 12:23AM PST

Have read all the 1606 error advice to date and tried just about all fixes. Have XP svc pack 3. Try to load AutoCad. Error message is "Error 1606 Could not access network location SETUP". Everybody else has reported a different error location statement however mine comes up and the last word in the message is SETUP. My registry entries match the user files, removed Recent, tried all the 'free' software fixes - none works. Any ideas? Thanks

The trial of Autocad is free. The program - if after the trial you decide to buy it - is $ 3.999, as http://download.cnet.com/AutoCAD/3000-6677_4-10573933.html mentions. For that amount of money you surely get support from the publisher.

Such expensive software doesn't seem to be for newbies, but for businesses. So maybe ask your IT-guy for help?

Setup

Did you try the above? If you're a registered user, I would think Autocad would supply support. Plus, you offered little PC details. If you've repeated installs, try using Revo Uninstaller, google for it and use in the more advanced setting. Reboot once done and see if that helps. Alas, if you're a network setup doesn't exist, set Autocad to non-network setting/install? Last, is your PC capable of using Autocad having fit the requirements level?

Error 1606
Feb 23, 2011 3:36AM PST

Thanks. Have tried the Fix It button from microsoft, several times. AutoDesk has an answer to the Error 1606 which essentially is identical to others which state to make sure your registry entries in certain keys are as they should be and that your user accounts mirror the registry (and they do). The software is the Education Edition.
The curious part is that the Error 1606 I get states only "SetUp" at the end, and not any of the other flag words that other people have reported in the message string (e.g. %USERPROFILE%). Where would you look to try to find what "SetUp" they are referring to? Thanks

Registry Entry Location
Feb 23, 2011 9:18AM PST

The link below provides the location for most such registry entry glitches.. Unfortunately, there is no "Setup" in the registry string. See what you can find.

http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread21164.html

If you've used registry cleaners/optimizers in the past, it may be the root of the problem.. If that's the case, there are some situations where the only fix is reinstalling Windows.

Hope this helps.
