My guess would be for you to only have one screen on at the time. That is either the laptop screen or the TV screen. If you have both on at the same time you are just sending the exact same screen out to two monitors with different aspect ratios. One of them is going to suffer.
If you want the screen aspect ratio correct for just the TV, just shut off the internal monitor, and then use the video control panel to adjust what you want for the remaining screen.
i have a hp dv 6000 running win 7 32 bit, and nvidia. when i connect the tv to my laptop via vga cable the aspect ratio of the tv causes the desktop (and movies etc..) to squish. This is annoying when playing movies through the tv cuz the picture (like the desktop) is squeezed down from 16:10 to 16:9. how can i make my 16:10 laptop display my 16:9 tv properlyeven if there are bars on each side. (note there is no option to change this on the tv itself, only 4:3 or 16:9) and in the nvidia control panel there is a custom resolution setting but it wont work. is there a way to make this fit or should i just buy a new laptop with a 16:9 screen?
