Question

144HZ not showing up as an option

Mar 24, 2017 9:07PM PDT

Hello,

I'm trying to fix an issue with a monitor that i just purchased so that it will display 144hz. The monitor in question is an Acer GN246HL. The monitor is 144HZ capable, and I managed to get it setup with my laptop so that it is the main display. However, the only option that I get is for 60HZ. The laptop is an MSI GT62VR running Windows 10 with a GTX 1060. It is connected via a mini display port to DVD-D cable. Thanks in advance for the help!

Answer
UNCHECKED the "Hide Mode that this Monitor can't display"?

Although this isn't always the best thing to do because of problematic hardware results, it might allow you to see if the graphic's card drivers, cabling, etc. will allow it. Right-click on Desktop and click on "Display Settings". Go to "Advanced display settings". Scroll down and under "Related settings", select "Display adapter properties". Select the Monitor tab, uncheck the box mentioned and select another refresh rate from Screen refresh rate. Click OK.

Also, make sure you have the latest graphics driver, supported on Windows 10, for you machine. The default Windows 10 drivers, installed by the Windows 10 upgrade just won't do it. In addition, you may need to update the cable to one that has enough bandwidth.

IN addition, the link below gives some good instructions on the same issue you have questions about..

Hope this helps.

Windows should not know this display. That is, check with the maker for a monitor.inf (some call this the driver.)
