Dec 8, 2009 3:03PM PST

im lookin to get a tv, and i found a pretty sweet deal, $400 1080p 32" 60hz VIZIO.

but im mainly getting one for gaming sooo im thinking that 120hz might be worth the $200 difference?

If you ask me

If you ask me, 60Hz is just fine for gaming. I have a 32" 1080p Sony Bravia that is only a 60Hz system, and it works just fine for high action games like Devil May Cry 4 and God of War (the PS3 remakes). I can't say as I've ever noticed any issues.

Even when you go to a store, and they have the demo units with the special split screen 120Hz vs. 60Hz displays, I barely notice a difference between the two.

I'm pretty well convinced that the majority of people out there just buy these things thinking that they must be better because 120Hz is 2X 60Hz (never mind they have no idea what that refers to) and then you have an emperor's new clothes situation. Even though there's really very little difference, they insist that they can see it in order to justify the extra money they spent.

Now, some people will have uncannily good vision and WILL be able to discern a difference, but most of us with 20/20 vision (or thereabouts) likely won't ever notice the difference.

After some scathing remarks by a CRT lover.

I'm thinking it all depends on you. If you can't stand any ghosting at all then skip 120Hz and go 240 or higher. Otherwise I can use the common units off the shelf and have no complaints.

Ghosting? Where?

Casper has NEVER visited my 120Hz LG EVER...well, except on DVD...and on occasion on one of the sat channels. At least with regards to gaming consoles I've yet to experience any display problems, er...issues...related to the TV itself. That said, I have had occasional ghosting occur with a 60Hz Samsung I used to use for my 360.

Glad those work for you.

It's sad there is no standard you can count on in this area.
