General discussion

120hz

Jan 27, 2009 10:23AM PST

On my 52a630 I cannot see any difference with the 120hz set to low ,med., high or demo. I checked it viewing ice skating, tennis, football, & movies(I don't see the 'live' look some mention). My input is dish HD reciever set to 1080i. I tried HDMI and component input. I also tried my old DVD player through the component input but no difference 120hz on /off. I should mention the PQ was so bad (grainy and blurry) I would not want to view any of my DVD's on this set. The DVD's are super clear on my 35"crt.

Is there some procedure to verify this feature is actually working and what about the poor DVD picture.

120 choppy

Call me weird but I don't like the how the 120 hz makes LCDs look because it looks kinda chooppy and awkward to me but you should be able to tell between high and low...I would think high would seem more choppy. This is just me though. Maybe I am wrong.

120Hz.

jbhassoc,

The 120Hz feature is most likely working. You can see a significant amount of processing with games and Blu-Ray, and some signals may not appear to take advantage of the AutoMotion Plus technology. So it's probably working, just not where you might be able to see it.

Your older DVD player is likely a progressive scan DVD player. DVD players can output up to 480i or 480p resolution; essentially, it is a standard definition media.

The picture quality of any standard definition output on a HDTV is likely going to appear grainy and a little blurry, as 480 lines are being stretched to 1080 lines.

I hope this help.

120Hz

I own a LN46A750 and I have a question regarding the 120Hz rate. I have gone in the setup and set it to 120Hz but when I just press the info button on the remote, at the top left it says 1920*1080 60Hz - shouldn't it change it to 120Hz? When I run it in demo mode I can see the screen split in two and one side is 60 and other 120. What am I missing?

Thanks

The info window displays the resolution, frequency and input connection(component, hdmi, etc) of the device connected to the 630. ie. sat box, cable box, blue ray,computer... Not the displays scan frequency.

No 120hz on LN46A850S1F ?
Jan 31, 2009 1:59AM PST

Hi there !
Just set up {or should I say TW installers} the LN46A850S1F with TW Cable Box {S.A. HDTV Cable Explorer 8300HDC } using Monster Cable Ultra 1000 10.2 Gbps. "Ultra-High Speed HDMI Cable" and is rated for "120hz Smooth Video Refresh Rate". This is plugged into HDMI input #1 on the TV. Looks INCREDIBLY FANTASTIC ! BUT.....while viewing HD tier of channels, including HDnet, pressing the "Info" button on the Samsung remote, the top left reads "HDMI1 1920 x 1080i @ 60hz". I have adjusted the "Auto Motion Plus 120hz" to "Low", "Medium", and "High", to no avail. "Info" still reads "HDMI1 1920x1080i @ 60hz". Would really like to get the most bang for my buck. Am I missing something ? A setting ? A re-boot of the TW box ? Any help would be most appreciated !....Thanks

Right..

mm538379 has it correct.

The box is outputting a 60Hz signal. The television itself will upconvert the signal to 120Hz to improve the motion. There are no 120Hz signals at this point.

The cable you purchased is rated to pass 120Hz signals, however, no 120Hz signals exist yet, minus some really high end components. So it will pass 60Hz for all of your inputs today.

Hope that helps.
