The investigation so far seems to support the charges

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- An ongoing military investigation supports allegations that U.S. Marines in November killed 24 innocent Iraqi civilians without being provoked, senior Pentagon sources said Friday.

Charges, including murder, could soon be filed against Marines allegedly involved, the sources said.

This is being investigated. The facts will be released. If it was as alleged, the Marines will be dealt with severely but JUSTLY.

I don't care what the eventual outcome is as concerns Murtha's despicable behavior trashing the Marines before all the facts are in. Those jumping on the bandwagon of prejudgment are equally repugnant.

Don't you understand, Evie -- the military WANTS this out!
May 26, 2006 1:18PM PDT

The investigation is (properly) taking quite a while, and the military is concerned that the delay will be interpreted as a coverup by our enemies unless there are simultaneous leaks, and statements like those of the Marine Corps Commandant. I don't see you folks saying he's a disgrace, but he's sending the same message. The disgraces are the Marines who've clearly sullied the Corps' reputations by their actions. There are sufficient leaks on this investigation to Murtha and to various reporters that clearly none should doubt the basic truth of the charges. OTOH, precisely identifying those responsible, and those who tried to cover it up, will take a while -- hence the delayed official report.

Dave you come off as pre judgmental when you say ''The disgraces are the Marines who've clearly sullied the Corps' reputations by their actions.'' Despite any evidence (valid or invalid) that is leaked... only a courts marshall can legally determine who may or may not be a criminal and sullied the Corps' reputation.

Evie, you make a simular unfounded assumption when you comment ''I don't care what the eventual outcome is as concerns Murtha's despicable behavior trashing the Marines before all the facts are in. Those jumping on the bandwagon of prejudgment are equally repugnant.'' You are prejudging a congressman with inside connections, not only from his political office but from his status as a decorated Marine veteran. I'm not saying he is but if Murtha is accurate in all his statements then how is he ''despicable''?

Both of you are wearing your political affiliations on your sleeve and it colors your comments. I hope the allegations aren't true... on the other hand, this has been a brutal war and it wouldn't surprise me if this did happen considering human nature.

It's too early to point a finger and I hope neither side is forced to eat crow in a matter like this... in the meantime, inflammatory speech serves no purpose since none of us can claim to know the facts Sad

... it doesn't matter if Murtha is relaying 100% accurate information. It's not HIS place to do it at this point in time. PERIOD. That he would put his politics above the military service he wraps himself in for respectibity is repugnant. My opinion.

his discussion of currents events.

Military/defense service

Congressman Murtha is so well-respected for his first-hand knowledge of military and defense issues that he has been a trusted adviser to presidents of both parties on military and defense issues and is one of the most effective advocates for the national defense in the country. He is ranking member and former chairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, a Vietnam combat veteran and a retired Marine Corps colonel with 37 years of service, a rare combination of experience that enables him to understand defense and military operations from every perspective.

He learned about military service from the bottom up, beginning as a raw recruit when he left Washington and Jefferson College in 1952 to join the Marines out of a growing sense of obligation to his country during the Korean War. There he earned the American Spirit Honor Medal, awarded to fewer than one in 10,000 recruits. He rose through the ranks to become a drill instructor at Parris Island and was selected for Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia. He then was assigned to the Second Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In 1959, Captain Murtha took command of the 34th Special Infantry Company, Marine Corps Reserves, in Johnstown. He remained in the Reserves after his discharge from active duty until he volunteered for Vietnam in 1966-67, receiving the Bronze Star with Combat "V", two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He remained in the Reserves until his retirement. This first-hand knowledge of military and defense issues has made him a trusted adviser to presidents of both parties and one of the most effective advocates for the national defense in Washington. At the request of Presidents and Speakers of the House, he served as chairman of delegations monitoring elections in the Philippines, El Salvador, Panama and Bosnia.

He was awarded the Navy Distinguished Service Medal by the Marine Corps Commandant when he retired from the Marines.

Which was a setup by the 'evil-doers'.

In this case, the "bad guys" just happened to be there with cameras so they could video tape the dead people.

Naturally, I hope for the best. But, if anybody indiscriminately and purposely killed the good with the bad, then that's not a good thing.
