11/05/04 What is your favorite Internet browser?

What is your favorite Internet browser?

AOL
Camino
Firefox
Internet Explorer
Netscape
Opera
Safari
Other
I have no clue what I'm using, it just works.

Here is a few questions to start you off:

What makes your vote, your favorite Internet browser? Speed? GUI? Less susceptible to harmful cyber elements?

If you chose other, what browser would that be?

Do you use more than one browser? Why? Isn't one good enough?

Have fun with this discussion!

I use Opera for several reasons.

1) Mouse gestures
2) smaller and faster than IE, yet more complete than Firefox
3) Tabbed browsing
4) Perfect (and I mean perfect) pop-up blocking which is easilt turned off and on as needed
5) Resistant to viruses and security attacks
6) More versatile than other browsers, more customizable
7) Built-in e-mail client means no extra open windows

I use Firefox and IE. I use Firefox as default. It is fast, simple, extensible, and the price is right.

I use IE because some sites won't work with anything else. One of the things I like with Firefox is I can right-click on a site, and bring it up in IE when required.

I really want firms like WebEx to better support non-IE browsers.

Firefox all the way. Faster, better interface, no back doors to the hackers. and open source. Only use IE for sites that will accept nothing else.

Until recently, IE. Now I use Firefox and Opera because I do not have issues with security with them. I have been trying to "unhijack" my IE home page for the past few weeks with no success. (Yes, I have tried everything piece of software out there.) Simply put, I do not have problems with Firefox or Opera and they are a lot faster.

If you open Firefox and go to "tools" and sellect "options" The first item is "Home Page". If you sellect "Use current page" it should change your home page to Firefox. Give it a try. - Matt

I use Mozilla and it is more secure than Explorer and blocks most pop-ups.

I have tried all the browsers out there I believe. I purchased NetCaptor about 2 years ago and I like it for it's numerous features, but I like to switch off and use AVANT browser too. They both have the same kind of features and a definite plus that AVANT browser has is that it is FREE and very user friendly.
I have NEVER LIKED Internet Explorer (boring). I would have to say that if I HAVE TO CHOOSE ONE (out of all of them), then I'd choose AVANT browser for sure!

Howdy,

I've switched to Firefox mostly for security reasons and I really like the easy way it opens multiple tabbed windows. I've installed the IEview extension for those sites that only work well with IE.

Firefox's popup blocker is also way cool.

FWIW I also am using the open source Thunderbird e-mail client, again mostly for security reasons.

I have switched to Firefox for greater security. However, I still use IE as my version of Firefox does not provide access to Java files. I see a new version has been issued today - does this include Java access? If not, how do you load Java into Firefox? Appreciate any help - Matt

Hmm Java is needed for applets to load, try going to www.sun.com & downloading Java runtime files. I think it's Java 1.4.2.or something like that (maybe there's a later version now. u dont need to redownload it each time u update Firefox or Mozilla.
My favourite browser is Opera as it seems the fastest & I have been using it for about 3 yrs. For the few websites that dont work on it I use Firefox or Mozilla.
They all have popup blockers & are more secure than IE.
Only use I.E.6 for windows update & the rare instance of a non standards compliant webpage that wont work on the other three. I find that I.E. is the slowest of the four & really sucks.
Another advantage of Opera, Firefox & Mozilla is that they all have Linux versions so if u wont to migrate to a Linux operating system you will have a familia browser & all will not be new.

Slimbrowser from flashpeak.com
This free browser is mature and continues to evolve. There are no rendering problems that I have encoutered in over 2 years of use. The tabbed interface is intuitive as is the ability to "group" sites for quick openning.
Reliable, intuitive, and fast. Did I mention free??

FixFire is my favorite. It is easy to use and allows me to browse several websites using one browser window. Multi-Task Browsing (MTB) is easier if you don't have to clutter your taskbar.

I also have IE installed as a backup, mostly because I'm too lazy to uninstall it and many websites are designed arounds its use, although I see it less and less often.

One is good enough, but I want the security of knowing I have a backup, just in case.
