Thanks for the response. So one clarifying question. Without the TV tuner what can I not do? IT sounds like with cable (any? or digital?) I will be fine, but are you saying I simply would not be able to receive any over the air reception?

Over-the-air HD reception...

You could still hook up a pair of rabbit ears and watch the few local UHF/VHF stations like ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS, but you'd need to purchase an HD tuner if you wish to watch over-the-air HD channels. That's why the HD-ready "monitors" are cheaper than HD TVs.
