Resolved Question

1080p (60p) Recording from Sony HDR-CX290 looks grainy

Jan 22, 2014 3:58AM PST

I have been using a Nikon D3100 to record videos in 720p and it looks fine. this Christmas, i got a Sony HDR-CX290. I recorded a video in 1080 60p (.mts format) and it looks very grainy. i looked at the video with media player classic, adobe premier elements 10, adobe after effects, and as a private video on youtube, and it still looks like this:

I'm not sure if this is normal or not but I am used to recording less-grainy .mov's with my Nikon.
I can give more technical details if they are required. Thanks in advance!

(NT) What if you play it from the CX290 over HDMI to HDTV?

That I have not tried... but I have also noticed the grainyness after recording and playing back 720p and MP4's

I hope the purpose of this camcorder is not just for viewing on HDTV's.... i was hoping to post to youtube Sad

If the issue is in the source, we get to discuss lighting.

Add light, etc.

Yup...

After posting on some other fourms and doing some more research, I found out that the Sony HDR-CX290 has a very small sensor, MUCH smaller than I'm used to working with... the other cameras I use usually don't have larger sensors therefore no grain in that light.

Thanks! Happy
