hari_iyer,
The 1080i displays the signal that is coming in from the source. Since even HD programming is classified as 720p, 1080i, and 1080p, (or any combination of those) the television itself will upconvert the picture to output 1080p.
At this point, it is rare that signals are broadcast in 1080p, however that information bar on your television notes the Hz and Resolution that are incoming, and will upconvert that picture to 1080p and in the case of the LN52A650, 120Hz.
On that note, nobody is broadcasting a 120Hz signal; again, the television will process the picture and display it as such.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

I recently bought a ln 52 A 650
I have connected my Comcast HD Dvr to the tv with HDMI cable ( HDMI supports 1080 p .. well that's what the site where i bough it from claims - http://www.eforcity.com/pothhdmh3f01.html?gad=CK3t3YQDEgj6ulAGrYfAChiJp-j9AyD575kr&efprcggbadtf081208=pothhdmh3f01 )
i see on the info bubble that i receiving images in 1920 * 1080 i @ 60 HZ.
I read your 60 HZ thread and understand that tv is upcoverting to 120 hz .
What about 1080i ? I was thinking it would be 1080 P ? Am i missing a simple setting or mistaken ?
Any help deeply appreciated.
