Start>msconfig>startup.
Untick everything but your AV.
Reboot.
Run the machine....any change?
I'm using a W7 AMD 32 bit w/2G ram. If I need to add something here, please let me know what and where I find it.
This computer runs at 100% cpu usage 100% of the time, and physical memory 1.3+ G consistently. While I have no way judge its speed, I know it's not as fast as it was new, not by a long shot.
I have done all the the defragmentation, disk clean up, etc., with no noticeable results. Also have a virus program running.
I have noticed that I have about 12 "svchost" processes running, and know that some of them are necessary. The two users of the largest amount are both "system" and "host processes for windows services.
Can I disable these and am I on the right track here anyway?
Many thanks,
John
