100%cpu usage on a toshiba satellite lap top

i just bought a new new lap top and i have a program called svchost which is running @ 80 to a 100% can any one help

Have you install the patches for Windows?

especially Windows Service Pack 2

If not yet, please go to Microsoft Update website
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate then install all the critical updates and fixes.
When you are done, see if there's any improvement.
