10 inch screen, fast processor, does it exist?

Nov 14, 2009 10:51PM PST

I am looking for a 10 inch screen laptop but not a netbook. A real, honest to god, not crippled, laptop. Why you might ask when 10 inch has those little cramped keyboards? Well I am a girl and I have small hands and the 10 inch works very well for me. I don't have big guy fingers. But everything in this size seems to be a netbook. And I want horses AND a small size. And I don't have $2000 to spend either.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Am I about a month too early to maybe be getting a Core 2 Duo in a small frame? Or is something like that never going to come out?

Thanks for any help.

Must it be exactly 10 inch?

How about the Acer TimeLines? Might be some other dual core.

10"....

what about 12"? HP makes a (reasonably) cheap 12" tablet PC (which means it has a touch screen that swivels around) with a 2.0GHz+ dual core AMD Turion CPU and lots of cool features. Here's one on Newegg.com: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834147952

Like the other guy said, there is the Acer Timeline which can be obtained with a (very) scaled down core 2 duo (1.3GHz or something like that). Here's one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115670 This one didn't look quite as good to me as the HP (too slow of a CPU), but it does have an 11" screen.

The first really good looking computer (price low to high) that I see is a lenovo ThinkPad. You can get these with full power Core 2 Duos (2.53GHz, etc), but they're a little expensive and I'm not sure there's a DVD drive. Here's one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146674
For that price, I'd take the leap and buy a MacBook, which includes a DVD burner.

Anyway, just a few suggestions. Just for your convenience, I did a quick search for 12" computers w/core 2 duo:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2034940032%201039323203%20103980222&name=12.1%22

The only 11" machine I could find on Newegg was the Acer listed above, and they have no 10" ones other than netbooks. You might take a trip to the nearest Best Buy or whatever electronics store is nearby to try out the display machines they have too.

Good luck!

Two fine choices...

The problem you run into there is that faster processors generally operate at higher temperatures and therefor require large spaces for cooling, etc. This definitely is going to be a sticking point for a 10" PC.

I mean, if you're not married to actual size, the Dell 13" PCs are light as heck and pack a punch. Just another suggestion.

Cheers,
Ron
