07 Chevy HHR LT

Ok i just bought an 07 Chevy HHR LT last Friday every thing was working fine until yesterday evening. I was on my way to work i go to start my car and the engine turns over but doesn't start so it try to jumpstart it that doesn't work come to find the jumper cables don't work .I go buy new ones still doesn't work. Then when the new jumper cables didn't work the car won't turn over it doesn't click and my key won't come out of the ignition can someone please explain what's going on
