Week ahead: More earnings

Following are some of the notable tech-related events scheduled for the week of Oct. 19. Industry titans Microsoft, Electronic Data Systems and Amazon will be among the tech companies to report their quarterly results in the coming week. Although the spotlight will be on earnings, a plethora of wireless gadgets at the CTIA Wireless IT and Entertainment 2003 trade show will likely steal some of the attention. Events scheduled this week: Tech Events Sunday, Oct. 19 Vendors will demonstrate new products during the Symposium ITxpo, Oct. 19-24, Orlando, Fla. Monday, Oct. 20 French connection. Database vendor Oracle will host its annual developers event, OracleWorld Paris Conference, Oct. 20-23, France. Internet service providers looking to hear the latest on services and products for both the wired and wirless world will descend on ISPCon, Oct. 20-22, Santa Clara, Calif. Tuesday, Oct. 21 Gadgets, gizmos, and widgets, oh my! Wireless industry players will get a preview of some of the latest technology products on the horizon during the CTIA Wireless IT and Entertainment 2003, Oct. 21-23, Las Vegas, Nevada. Wednesday, Oct. 22 The Penguin goes to Washington. Corporate tech executives looking to bone up on Linux and open-source products and services may head to the Enterprise Linux Forum, Oct. 22-23, Washington, D.C. Earnings Monday, Oct. 20 Check Point Software Technologies makes security software. The company is expected to report a third-quarter profit of 23 cents a share. Silicon Graphics makes high-end computers. It is expected to report a first-quarter loss of 11 cents a share. Texas Instruments makes semiconductor chips. It is expected to report a third-quarter profit of 9 cents a share. Tuesday, Oct. 21 Amazon.com is an online retailer. It is expected to report a third-quarter profit of 10 cents a share. EarthLink is an Internet service provider. It is expected to report a third-quarter profit of 6 cents a share. Maxtor is a disk-drive maker. It is expected to report a third-quarter profit of 17 cents a share. Seagate is a disk-drive maker. It is expected to report a first-quarter profit of 36 cents a share. SBC Communications is a telecommunications company. It is expected to report a third-quarter profit of 39 cents a share. Wednesday, Oct. 22 Cirrus Logic makes semiconductor chips. It is expected to report a second-quarter loss of 11 cents a share. Computer Associates is a software vendor. It is expected to report a second-quarter profit of 14 cents a share. Electronic Data Systems is an IT consulting company. EDS is expected to report a third-quarter profit of 32 cents a share. Lucent Technologies is a telecommunications equipment maker. It is expected to report a fourth-quarter loss of 4 cents a share. Net2Phone is a voice over IP services company. Net2Phone is expected to report a fourth-quarter loss of 12 cents a share. Thursday, Oct. 23 Borland makes software tools. It is expected to report a third-quarter profit of 1 cent a share. Gateway makes computers. It is expected to report a third-quarter loss of 19 cents a share. JDS Uniphase makes products for fiber-optics communications. It is expected to report a first-quarter loss of 2 cents a share. Microsoft is a software provider. It is expected to report a first-quarter profit of 29 cents a share. Nortel Networks is a networking company. It is expected to report a break-even third quarter. VeriSign makes security software. It is expected to report a third-quarter profit of 14 cents a share. Xerox makes copiers and printers. It is expected to report a third-quarter profit of 10 cents a share. Economic Reports Monday, Oct. 20 Leading Economic Indicators summarizes previously reported totals such as building permits and unemployment claims. It?s expected to decline to zero for September, compared with 0.4 percent the previous month.
