After teasing about its new Thunderbolt at CES 2012 and Macworld iWorld, Western Digital finally officially announced today that it's now shipping its My Book Thunderbolt Duo dual-drive storage system.

This is the company's first Thunderbolt storage device.

As reported before, the My Book Thunderbolt is a dual-volume drive that supports RAID 0 and RAID 1. The driver comes in 4TB and 6TB capacities and has two Thunderbolt ports, allowing it to be daisy-chained together. This is very similar to the recently reviewed 2big Thunderbolt drive from LaCie.

The My Book Thunderbolt looks very different from the LaCie, however, as it follows the design of Western Digital's My Book lineup, such as the My Book Studio, and is basically shaped like a standing folded book with drive bays accessible from the top.

WD says the new drive will offer "ultrafast" data transfer rates and comes with a three-year warranty. It's available now and costs $600 and $700 for the 4TB and 6TB capacities, respectively.
