Geeky singer-songwriter "JoCo," as he's known to fans, talks about life, music, zombies, and Caribbean cruises.
Valve Software's 2007 video game Portal was an instant classic that immediately won fans over with its unique, physics-based challenges, innovative portal gun, and sharp comedy. But beyond the dark humor and diabolical puzzles was a hidden gem for players able to make it to the end: a witty and humorous song called "Still Alive."
Singer-songwriter Jonathan Coulton was the man behind the infectiously catchy Easter egg song. But in an interview with CBS News, JoCo -- as he's known to fans -- showed why he's more than a one-hit wonder.
Coulton recently came out with his eighth album, "Artificial Heart." As he explains in the video above, he doesn't exactly have a name for his particular genre of geek-friendly, comedic folk songs. But like any artist, Coulton decided to write about what he knows.
For Coulton, a former computer programmer, that meant singing about the 9-to-5 grind of a cubicle worker in "Code Monkey"; the pharmaceutical euphoria of over-medication in "I Feel Fantastic"; and... zombies. Sure, why not?
CBS News was lucky enough to get Jonathan to perform some of his hits in our studio. But if that's not enough to satisfy your geek-rock hunger, check out his Web site for tour dates. Or if you want to take your fandom to the next level, a seven-day cruise around the Caribbean with JoCo and some of his closest friends might do it.
