Twitter to stream MLB baseball and NHL hockey

Users will be able to watch weekly out-of-market games along with an exclusive highlights show.

Twitter said Monday that it will stream live, out-of-market games from Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League every week. Users will also be able to catch an exclusive highlights show called "The Rally," which the company said is the first of its kind to be produced on Twitter.

The games will be available for free, whether or not a user is logged in. Hockey will be available only in the US, but baseball will be available worldwide. The schedule will be released at a later date.

The move is an expansion of Twitter's online sports video strategy. Earlier this year, the social media service said it would stream Thursday Night Football games from the NFL.
