We love the ambition of Stephen Hawking's Starshot Project, which believes it can send tiny spacecraft to Alpha Centauri within two decades -- a far cry from the 30,000 years it would take currently with standard space flight technology.

Also, researchers at Dartmouth University are showing off a "smart" spray-paint can that does all the work for budding street artists, from deciding how much paint to release to when to start and stop spraying. Wouldn't that make the can the actual "artist," though?
