The World Drone Prix holds its championships this upcoming weekend in Dubai; also, DARPA's X-Plane concept aims for perfect vertical takeoffs and landings.

We can't wait to watch the World Drone Prix this weekend on our computers (even though we'll be wishing we were in Dubai to see the championships in person), since the tracks look stunning and we love a good drone race. Meanwhile, DARPA released information about its plans for a VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) X-Plane, and if the concept expands in a few years, it could mean major transformations in aviation.
