Han's pleased he can watch the "Star Wars Episode VII" trailer online without having to make the Kessel Run to a movie theatre far, far away. Lucasfilm

Update 28 November: The trailer is now online, you can watch it here

Don't worry if you live far away from a movie theatre: the Force will awaken for "Star Wars" fans all around the world this Friday when the first trailer for the hotly anticipated "Episode VII" will appear on iTunes.

Previously the folks behind the new film had announced that the trailer would be shown in a selection of cinemas. As charmingly old-school as that sounds, it's no comfort to "Star Wars" fans around the world -- but we can all relax, because the official "Star Wars" Twitter account has confirmed the trailer will also appear online on Apple's trailer site.

The folks at Skywalker Ranch haven't said exactly what time the trailer will be available, but hey -- the future of all Jedi uncertain is.

No doubt there will still be queues around the block for screenings of the teaser trailer in 30 theatres run by Regal, AMC, Cinemark and a few other cinema chains.

The excitement around the trailer harks back to the heady days of 1998, when trailers for "The Phantom Menace" played before films including "Meet Joe Black". "Star Wars" fans took their seats, enjoyed the preview of the prequel -- then slipped away before the first frame of Brad Pitt's hair had even appeared.

May the force be with you, and all that.
