Sony is prepping a new 13-inch slider laptop, similar to the Vaio Duo 11, for a Computex reveal, a source tells CNET.
The source familiar with the upcoming device -- supposedly called the Vaio Duo 13 -- confirmed to CNET the authenticity of the video, pictures, and specifications originally revealed Thursday by Notebook Review. Barring any last-minute changes, the source indicated that the Japanese company plans to announce the Windows 8 device during its annual press conference in early June at the Computex expo in Taiwan.
CNET has contacted Sony for comment and will update this post if we hear back.
Aside from a lighter and thinner chassis, the Vaio Duo 13 is said to carry several internal improvements over its predecessor.
Most importantly, the source says, the new Duo features a larger 13-inch 1,920x1,080 Triluminos touch-screen display and a whopping 10 hours of battery life. Naturally, the Duo 13 processor and memory configurations will vary by region, but at the very least expect an Intel Core i5 Processor, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD on-board. Like its sibling, the Duo 13 should have customization options that include an i7 processor, 8GB of RAM, and beefier SSD options.
Sony's newest Vaio Duo isn't much of a slouch in the photography department either, as it should reportedly feature a rear "Exmor RS" 8-megapixel camera and an unknown front camera (likely a lesser-spec Exmor RS Web cam). Other interesting Vaio Duo 13 specs include NFC, GPS, a backlit keyboard, and larger trackpad. The Duo 13 also features two USB 3.0 ports, full-size HDMI, and improved speakers (ClearAudio+), our source says, as well as a combination slot for SD and Memory Stick Duo storage cards.
