Sony releases 802.11a products

Consumer-electronics maker Sony announced that it will release 802.11a PC Cards and access points this month. Sony's $180 Vaio 5GHz wireless LAN PC Card, the PCWA-C500, and the $400 access point, the PCWA-A500, will be available later this month. They will allow consumers to connect PCs together to access and stream content. The 802.11a standard offers data-transfer speeds of up to 54 megabits per second and has a range of up to 300 feet.
