Short Take: Ericsson announces mobile phone/PDA hybrid

Ericsson unveiled Tuesday the R380 World, which combines a mobile phone, a personal digital assistant and mobile Internet access. The device meshes international roaming in more than 120 countries with Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) services for Internet data. The R380 looks like a standard mobile phone when closed. But when opened, a touch-sensitive screen offers access to email, the Internet, a calendar, contacts, a notepad and voice memo. The Ericsson R380 World will be available in the United States by year's end.
