'Star Trek' voyaging to a symphony near you

Symphonies around the world will travel to the final frontier by playing soundtracks live to J.J. Abrams' films "Star Trek" and "Star Trek Into Darkness" starting in May.

Set your entertainment expectations to stun. Symphonies in the United States, Canada, Switzerland, and England want to transport audiences to the final frontier with special live concerts performed during screenings of J.J. Abrams' recent films "Star Trek" and "Star Trek Into Darkness."

According to, orchestras around the world will perform the latest "Star Trek" movies' scores composed by Michael Giacchino while the movies play, giving audiences a unique viewing experience. The tour is scheduled throughout Europe, the US, and Canada starting in May.

"Star Trek" fans and geeks alike will be excited to learn that one of the concerts will be held in San Diego at the same time as the ultimate geek convention San Diego Comic-Con International.

The "Star Trek" film not only gets a wide-screen showing, but the San Diego Symphony, who will be performing the soundtrack live, is conducted by David Newman -- the composer of Joss Whedon's cult hit film "Serenity." Plus "Star Trek" soundtrack composer Michael Giacchino will be making an appearance for a special meet and greet in the VIP area with fans.
