Sales jump for games retailer

Electronics Boutique, a video and computer game retailer, says that holiday sales were up more than 50 percent from a year ago, pushed by interest in new game consoles from Microsoft and Nintendo, and strong sales of games for Sony's PlayStation 2. Total sales for the nine weeks ended Jan. 5 were $416.4 million, the company reported, compared with $264.6 million in the same period a year ago. On a per-store basis, sales were up 39.6 percent worldwide and 43.1 percent in the United States.
