There are times when we simply can't explain why we do things.
I am, therefore extremely grateful to Russell Brand, who has shoveled deep inside his own psyche to explain an incident that involved him, a photographer, an iPhone, and the window of a lawyer's office.
His explanation suggests that the death of Steve Jobs has affected him more than anyone might have thought.
The way that Fox News explains the story, Brand was somewhat frustrated that paparazzi were taking shots of him while he was in New Orleans.
One photographer, Timothy Jackson, was taking pictures with his iPhone. Brand allegedly grabbed the iPhone and, in an act of multifaceted symbolism, tossed it through the window of a law firm.
An arrest warrant has been issued, as the photographer is reportedly claiming "criminal damage." This presumably refers to his phone, not to his personal disposition.
Why might Brand have performed the iPhone tossing? Why, he took to Twitter and explained that the reason was the passing of Apple's longtime leader.
"Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory," he tweeted. The star of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" cannot forget Jobs.
There are many who were moved by Jobs' death. It is heartening, however, that some are able to articulate just the sort of behaviors to which they have been moved.
In what must have been a call in which tongues were firmly planted in cheeks, Brand's people have reportedly offered to pay for the law firm's broken window.
