Man with iPhone gun case at airport gets shamed by police

Technically Incorrect: At an airport near London, police are appalled by a man's iPhone case. They take their case to Twitter.

Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives.

The police weren't pleased to see him at all.

It's dangerous to think you're clever.

You're not likely to be clever if, for example, you do something dangerous at an airport.

But one man at London Stansted Airport seemed to think he was.

There he stood with what looked like a gun in his back pocket.

The local Essex police weren't pleased to see him.

Indeed, in a Twitter post, they presented a picture of a man's rear.

They added the caption: "You have a split second decision to make..."

It was, in fact, an iPhone case.

It looks somewhat similar to one launched last year and lambasted by prosecutors in New Jersey.

With nervousness at airports at an extreme, it's easy to have sympathy with the police.

Essex Police didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

It's unclear whether the man was detained or may be charged.

However, on Twitter, the police speculated that they could proceed with charges against this man for either a public order offense or for possession of an imitation firearm in a public place.

The police also added on Twitter, with barely concealed contempt: "Bringing this to an airport makes it much less likely you'll catch your plane."

They also offered the hashtag #dontbedaft.

People are daft, however. Their daftness can often exceed their capacity for any sort of human sensitivity.

Indeed, they can confuse their daftness with cleverness quite often. Until someone in uniform puts that cleverness to the test.
