OS X 10.7.3 hits, promises to smash bugs, add new languages

Apple's released the third minor update to Mac OS X 10.7 that brings a handful of bugfixes while adding new languages. The company also pushed out an update to Snow Leopard and Apple Remote Desktop.

Apple released OS X 10.7.3 Lion today, the third such minor update to the operating system since it was launched last July.

The update, which went out to Lion users earlier this afternoon, includes an update to Safari, bringing the built-in browser up to version 5.1.3. System-wide, the update promises to fix bugs and add new languages, including Greek, Hebrew, Thai and Catalan, among others. It also fixes bugs with authenticating with directory services and what Apple says were "compatibility issues" with Windows file sharing.

The release follows some seven betas of the software given out to developers, the last two of which were delivered with no known issues.

Below is the full change log of what end users are getting with this one:

  • • Add Catalan, Croatian, Greek, Hebrew, Romanian, Slovak, Thai, and Ukrainian language support
  • • Address issues when using smart cards to log into OS X
  • • Resolve issues authenticating with directory services
  • • Address compatibility issues with Windows file sharing
  • • Address an issue printing Microsoft Word documents that use markup
  • • Address a graphics performance issue after sleep on some earlier iMacs that use ATI graphics
  • • Resolve a Wi-Fi connection issue when waking from sleep
  • • Address an issue that may prevent Safari from opening before joining a wireless network
  • • Fix a potential issue authenticating to an SMB DFS share
  • •Include RAW image compatibility for additional digital cameras

  • • Improve binding to read-only Active Directory Domain Controllers
  • • Improve binding and login speed for Active Directory users in a domain whose name ends in ".local"
  • • Improve reliability of Dynamic DNS (DDNS) updates by Active Directory clients
  • • Allow login with an Active Directory username that contains a space
  • • Improve compatibility with Active Directory schemas that have been
    • extended with the "apple-user-homeDirectory" and "apple-user-homeurl" attributes
  • • Fix home directory Dock item for Active Directory users with mobile accounts
  • • Allow NIS users with MD5-hashed passwords to log in

Separately, Apple put out a 192.73MB security update for Snow Leopard users, as well as an update to its Remote Desktop software. So far there are no details on what the Snow Leopard update includes in the way of security fixes, with the Remote Desktop update fixing an issue with screen sharing and using remote computers that use two displays in certain configurations.
