Meet Barack Obama, college kid, in first trailer for 'Barry'

Hail to the very young chief. The Netflix original movie focuses on the future president's junior year at Columbia University in New York.

President Barack Obama has two months left in office before vacating the White House, but before he moves out, he'll get to see himself go back to college. Netflix is releasing "Barry," an original movie about his younger days, and the first full trailer came out Monday.

Australian actor Devon Terrell plays the future president as he begins his junior year at New York's Columbia University in the fall of 1981. He's got Obama's early-'80s look down pat, and there's no trace of an Australian accent.

In the trailer, we see a young Obama smoking, dancing, flirting and playing basketball. It also shows him coming to grips with what it means to have a white mother from Kansas and a black father from Kenya, to be a mixed-race man in 1980s America.

Terrell told GQ that playing the role was about "finding the awkwardness. The man we see now has a swagger about him, walks around with his chest up high. Looking at him when he was 30, though, he was a different man. And so thinking about him at 21, when he's trying to find himself, he's not as assured."

"Barry" comes to Netflix on December 16.
