Next week a blank slate for IPOs

Not a single initial public offering is scheduled to begin trading next week, a scenario typically seen only during holiday weeks.

The markets have officially entered the dog days of summer.

Not a single initial public offering is scheduled to begin trading next week, a scenario typically seen only during holiday weeks.

The last time the markets saw an empty IPO calendar was the week of July 4, and before that, the first week of January following the New Year.

Next week's blank calendar follows a sporadic week, with one IPO more than doubling in its debut, another barely moving, and the third rising modestly.

O2Micro International roused the market midweek, closing up 130 percent at $20.77. O2Micro makes integrated circuits that extend the battery life of a range of consumer electronics products.

On Tuesday, Ista Pharmaceuticals ended the day up 25 cents from its IPO price, at $10.75. Today the stock is trading at $11.81.

ServiceWare Technologies started trading today. The Oakmont, Penn.-based company began trading at $8.68 after pricing 4.5 million shares yesterday at $7 each.
