Fill your home with that new Mac smell, courtesy of this candle

Technically Incorrect: The makers of the New Mac Candle insist it smells just like your favorite Apple product.

Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives.

Look. It's sold out already.

Can you even remember what a new Mac smells like?

Is it distinctive? Does it have something unique about it? Or is that smell merely the result of your excessive excitement at buying one?

I only ask because Twelve South, which makes Apple accessories, has released something called the New Mac Candle.

It's made of 100 percent soy wax. I assume that's a good thing.

You, though, will be wondering what a new Mac smells like. In candle odor terms, that is.

New Macs smell of mint, peach, basil, lavender, mandarin and sage, according to Twelve South.

And there I was thinking that, at best, they smell of plastic and metal. How unsophisticated my nasal passages must be.

A spokesman for Twelve South confessed to me: "This is

our creative director's interpretation of the new Mac smell."

Oh, this is merely an artist's impression. I've seen those on timeshare brochures for vacation resorts that haven't yet been built.

"We know that a lot of the scents that come from opening a new Mac are more about the metals and glues," countered the spokesman. "The key aspect for our scent capture was that it is still a candle you want to have in your home."

It seems that at least some people have been persuaded. The New Mac Candle, which retails in such bastions of retail glory as Amazon and the Container Store, is already out of stock. It sold out in just 150 minutes.

This despite enjoying an Apple-like exalted price: $24, for just 45-55 hours of New Mac smell time.

Still, I suppose that some Apple fanpersons will believe that this smell is the last step before the perfect seduction of the lover for whom they've been pining for years.

Either that, or it will serve to stimulate those who believe it's been far too long since Apple released a new Mac.
