New 'Game of Thrones' season 6 trailer ramps up the dread factor

Dragon fire, a dead army, political intrigue and slicing swords feature in the latest trailer for HBO's new season of "Game of Thrones."

The second full-length trailer for season 6 of HBO's "Game of Thrones" is a delightful, lighthearted romp featuring beloved characters laughing and singing under sunny skies. Just kidding. It's dark and full of terrors. HBO posted the latest peek into the shadowy, dangerous world of intrigue, swords and dragons on Monday.

Season 6 will debut on April 24. HBO released the first moody full-length trailer in March and it hinted at looming battles and acts of violence. The latest footage checks in with all the main characters in rapid-fire succession. There are plenty of knives, swords and characters staring coldly into the distance. "Make no mistake, the dead are coming," Davos Seaworth warns.

We also get a glimpse of a Lannister pep talk as Cersei tells her son to "show them what Lannisters are, what we do to our enemies." HBO knows we're all keen to learn what happens with Daenerys Targaryen's dragons, so there's a very brief clip of one of the beasts in flight. Mostly, the new trailer communicates a sense of heightened dread, foreboding and oncoming blood. It's everything fans have come to expect from the series.
