Google said on Wednesday that Bell Canada executive Patrick Pichette will become its next chief financial officer, replacing George Reyes, who had earlier announced his intention to retire.

Pichette's appointment at Google is effective August 12. The company last year announced that Reyes planned to retire.

Pichette, the president of operations at Bell Canada, has put in seven years at the Canadian communications company. He had also served as the company's chief financial officer from 2002 to 2003.

In a statement, Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt said:

"Patrick brings the expertise and track record of a successful CFO, along with the hands-on business experience of a seasoned operations executive. This strong combination of skills and experience will be an important addition to Google's executive management team and will support our ongoing efforts to increase value for our users, advertisers and partners."

Pichette will report to Schmidt.
