Familiar 'X-Files' faces get a retro makeover in new animated trailer

Agents Mulder and Scully, UFOs, forest monsters, Flukeman and Cancer Man all appear in a teasing new trailer that hints at more secrets to be revealed.

This animated trailer for the "The X-Files" features agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully chasing down UFOs and paranormal creatures from past episodes, while paying homage to iconic Hollywood thrillers.

The teaser trailer is animated in the style of the graphic designer Saul Bass. He was best known for creating stylistic title sequences for such movies as "Psycho", "North by Northwest," and "Anatomy of a Murder."

In the trailer, we see Mulder walking through a forest full of giants, a UFO taking flight and Mulder's beloved "I Want to Believe" office poster. Then the scene burns away as Cancer Man (William B. Davis) lights a cigarette and says, "They've re-opened the X-Files."

Flashlights in hand, Mulder and Scully search for the truth and stumble upon previous dangers like black oil and Flukeman. Good thing Scully is armed with her gun.

"We must ask ourselves, are we truly alone?" Mulder (David Duchovny) asks. "Or are we being lied to?"

The upcoming six-episode "X-Files" revival will feature both standalone stories and others that continue the mythology and conspiracy theories of the original series.

"The X-Files" will debut on Fox with a special two-night event beginning on Sunday January 24, 2016 at 10 p.m. ET and 7 p.m. PT.

The series will then continue in its regular slot from Monday January 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. There's no details available for the UK and Australia yet, so check your local TV listings.
