As I've mentioned many times in the past year, LED-based monitors have become completely ubiquitous. So, in an LED-monitor world as vast as the one we live in--where one is released every week, practically--how does a monitor vendor make its LED hopeful stand out? NEC seems to think ergonomics and DisplayPort are the ways to go.
This week, the company announced the 23-inch MultiSync E231W. The monitor includes a fully ergonomic design, featuring 110mm height adjustment, tilt, swivel, and pivot, as well as DisplayPort support.
Also, in an attempt to diminish your carbon footprint when using it, the E231W includes an ECO Mode and an ambient light sensor.
One of the standout features of the NEC MultiSync PA271W was the carbon footprint meter. On the PA271W, the meter estimates how much power you're using at any given time. No word yet if the version on the E231W is as robust, however.
NEC also stated that the E231W "increases energy savings by up to 40 percent in comparison to conventional CCFL-backlit LCD monitors." The company didn't reveal how it arrived at that figure.
Here's a quick look at the features of the E231W:
- 23-inch 16:9 W-LED backlit panel
- 1920 x 1280 full HD resolution
- 25,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio
- 4-way ergonomic stand with 110mm height adjustment, tilt, swivel and pivot
- Full connectivity with DisplayPort, VGA and DVI inputs
- ECO Mode and ambient light sensor
- Carbon footprint meter
The MultiSync E231W comes with a three-year parts-and-labor limited warranty and will be available this month at a street price of $299.
