Minox's quirky camera for scoping

It's a digital camera, monitor, and eye-piece, all rolled into one light package.

At first glance, the Digital Eyepiece Camera from Germany's Minox looks nothing like a shooter. But underneath its quirky exterior are a digital camera, monitor, and eye-piece, all rolled into a package weighing less than 8 ounces.

The DEC 5.0 acts pretty much like a dSLR camera but instead of fitting a lens, you attach a spotting scope. The camera comes in several different mounts, each adapted for different brands of telescopes.

Bird lovers now won't have to lug around heavy equipment but can contend with just a telescope and this 5-megapixel camera. The 2.4-inch TFT LCD screen is relatively small but ample for more then one person to view.

The DEC 5.0 is also shockproof and waterproof, so you can carry on scoping and shooting even in poor weather. It comes with 128MB of internal memory and has an SD card slot if more space is required.

We couldn't find it at Minox's online store, but there are plenty of other sites touting the DEC for $449.
