Microsoft announced Friday the beta release of the first set of developer tools for DirectX 9, the new version of the graphics software that helps run most Windows-based PC games. DirectX 9 includes new technology for enhanced graphics effects, support of multiplayer games, and new audio tools. The beta release of the API (application programming interface) for DirectX 9.0 is available now to developers who previously registered with Microsoft's beta program.
