Microsoft TV gets Liberate exec

Microsoft on Monday said that former Liberate executive John Walthall will become director of worldwide sales for Microsoft TV. Walthall had served as Liberate?s vice president of sales for the Americas.

The capture of an executive from competitor Liberate comes as Microsoft continues the rescue effort for its struggling TV division. The software giant scaled back Microsoft TV operations in April with layoffs and restructuring, following a larger restructuring in January. In May, Microsoft offered a new interactive program guide as part of a competitive move against Liberate.
