File this under "unscientific, but interesting". Dating site Cupid.com surveyed 1000 men and women across Australia and found that 45 per cent of Melbournians were likely to spend over AU$100 on a first date, compared to just 9 per cent of Sydneysiders.
In fact, Sydney topped the cheapskate list, with a solid 38 per cent of people in the NSW capital willing to spend less than AU$25 on a first date. Given Sydney's current love of small bars with not so small prices, we can only assume that's a first date were you only have one drink — and not buy one for your date.
Sydney can hold its head up high on one point, however — only 4.5 per cent of the people surveyed in Perth were willing to break the AU$100 mark, despite having the highest population, per capita, of self made millionaires.
